Manual entry: Unknown activity*
What is the difference between manual entry and a manual entry violation?
Manual Entry (M1 entry) on the tachograph is required to account for unknown time on the driver card.
It is mandatory to remove the driver card from the tachograph at the end of a shift, as the card must not be left unattended in the cabin.
A manual entry violation occurs when, upon reinserting the card, the activities that took place since the card was removed are either not entered or entered incorrectly. In most cases, this activity is rest.
The correct procedure for manual entry may vary depending on the tachograph type. For example, older VDO tachographs differ significantly from Stoneridge tachographs.
What should you do?
-
At the end of your shift, remove the driver card from the tachograph and enter the country code of the country you are in at that time.
-
At the start of your next shift, reinsert the driver card. You must now not only enter the starting country code, but also manually input the activities that occurred since the card was last removed at the end of your previous shift.
